Doggy bags
In England when we visit a restaurant and can’t eat all that we have ordered, we often ask the waiter to put the left over food in a doggy bag so we can take it home and eat later. But here in Japan it is not so common. One reason is that it is illegal due to health and hygiene issues. The other is that often the Japanese feel that Japanese food should be eaten as fresh or as soon as possible to retain the flavor.

But now we are living in a Green World, Maybe the Japanese should reconsider. I understand that with certain types of food there is a possibility of food poisoning. But there are many types of containers and packages that can keep food fresh and safe. Even for food such as raw fish. Maybe restaurant customers could bring their own doggy bags to the restaurant and restaurants could provide dry ice. We have delivery Sushi and can buy raw fish from a supermarket, so why can’t I take home those 7 pieces of sushi that are left on my plate, after eating at my favorite Sushi restaurant?  One day I hope I can!
